JAN 24Varina Ruritan Club, located at 8081 Recreation Road, will host a Pancake Supper benefiting American Heritage Girls Troop VA2316 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for children under 10 years old and $9 for ages 10 and older. An immigrant of Russia, Berlin created over 1,000 songs including “White Christmas,” “Easter Parade,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” and “God Bless America.” His works spanned from Tin Pan Alley to Broadway and they were performed from Hollywood to military bases. Developed at Virginia Rep, this musical drama details the joys, sorrows and challenges Harriet Tubman faced while courageously freeing herself and hundreds of others from the bonds of slavery. Part of the Acts of Faith Festival, the production is suggested for ages nine and up and lasts approximately one hour. Tickets start at $21. Family band Mountain Highway will perform from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road. Their performances feature traditional bluegrass and gospel music, originally made famous by legends like Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, and Ralph Stanley. The band is comprised of four sibling singers who play banjo, fiddle, mandolin and guitar, and their father on upright bass. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at henricolive.com.


Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will present “Poet-Tree: Taking Root,” a day of youth and adult nature poetry workshops and readings, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each winter, a tree skeleton appears in the Robins Library – a Poet-Tree. Visitors are invited to compose original poems on paper leaves and attach them to the Poet-Tree so it will grow and flourish as winter gives way to spring. The Appalachian Twinning Ministry Bluegrass Concert Series at Saint Michael Roman Catholic Church continues with the Damian Muller Band from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $17 in advance and $22 at the door and include dinner. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will broadcast Bolshoi Ballet’s production of “Giselle” at 12:55 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. The Modlin Center, in partnership with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, will broadcast the fourth consecutive season of Pathe Live’s Bolshoi Ballet, which broadcasts ballet productions direct from the grand Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia. The McShin Foundation, 2300 Dumbarton Road, will present “Reconstructing Fear,” a Real Talk | Guided Meditation, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. The program features Parham Neal-Pishko, a student of Trauma Informed Yoga and owner of ONE Wellness Yoga in Richmond, and McKenzie Payne, a certified Yoga teacher and recovery coach who is in long term recovery.
