JAN 10The Latin Ballet of Virginia will present its 19th performance of “The Legend of the Poinsettia” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11 and at 3 p.m. Jan. 12 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. The story is based on the Mexican legend about a pure-hearted young girl who discovers the true spirit of giving. Friedman’s 2017 album, “Shoot The Moon,” reached No. 2 on the Roots Music Report Americana Country Album Chart. In March of 2019, he released “Sun Never Sets,” a song and video dedicated to immigrants and immigration reform. He will be joined by special guest Cecil Charles. Arnez was recruited by The Harlem Globetrotters after their scouts saw his physical comedy routine and local celebrity basketball games. After a minor knee injury, Arnez hit the comedy circuit in Georgia and was a finalist in the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition in 1992. He has made numerous television appearances. The Continentals will perform at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Shake off the winter blues with popular “big band” tunes. Part of Henrico Live’s sixth season. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at henricolive.com.


The Shady Grove Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Road in Glen Allen, will present The Anvil Brothers at 8 p.m. The Anvil Brothers, a Richmond-based contemporary bluegrass band, formed in 2012 and consists of Taylor Clark on bass along with original members Jim Mohr (mandolin, guitar, violin), Doug Hepler (guitar) and Donnie Durham (banjo, dobro). The Adolph-Adams JCC Forum, “A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein Through Story and Song,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Weinstein JCC, 5403 Monument Avenue. Jamie Bernstein, the oldest daughter of composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, will be the featured guest. The Henrico Humane Society’s 20th Annual Pet Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Richmond Raceway. More than 50 vendors and exhibitors will be on site selling pet-related products and services. A variety of activities, many of which involve pet participation, will be scheduled throughout the day. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 or at the door for $10; ages 6-12 are $5 and children under six and pets are admitted free. All proceeds benefit the Henrico Humane Society. Virginia Repertory Theatre will host a Library Yard Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn. The indoor yard sale will feature duplicates found within the library including scripts, books, DVDs, LPs and resource materials focused on live theater. There will also be bolts of fabric, sound equipment and more. Proceeds will go toward a laptop with library software that will help transform the current library into an actual lending library. Ankush Kumar Bahl, conductor and music director candidate, and the Richmond Symphony will perform at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Road, at 3 p.m. The program will include John Adams’ “The Chairman Dances: Foxtrot for Orchestra,” Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622” and Bruckner’s “Symphony No. 7 in E Major.” Joining the performance will be guest artist and principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, Anthony McGill. Mother State Roller Derby will hold a Winter Warm Up Open Scrimmage from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Roller Dome, 4902 Williamsburg Road.
