DEC 6The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen will present “An Evening of Holiday Brass” featuring Brass 5 at 7 p.m. The ensemble will perform holiday songs from traditional settings to clever arrangements of secular Christmas favorites including “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch,” “First Noel” and more. In this one-person show, actor Ray Carver will tell the classic story as Scrooge’s creator, Charles Dickens. He will play all the characters himself – from Scrooge to the ghosts and the whole Cratchit family – over 40 different characters in all. Gayton Road, will present its annual Jazz Nativity concerts featuring UR music professor and jazz musician David Esleck at 7 p.m. Dec. 6, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 7 and at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Dec. 8. The performances will feature holiday favorites in styles ranging from big band swing to Dixieland and contemporary jazz. Gourmet coffee and desserts will be available from Starbucks. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse will present its third annual holiday concert at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Road in Glen Allen. The performance will feature carol singing, the UUCC Choir and individual performers including Jim Mohr of the Anvil Brothers. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, in partnership with Henrico Recreation and Parks, will present the 21st annual Tree Lighting from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Enjoy cookies and hot chocolate, music performances, a bonfire, holiday crafts for kids and a special visit from Santa to light the 60-foot cedar Christmas tree. The Center's seasonal gift shop and the annual “Illumination: Festival of Trees” exhibit will be open to the public. Admission and parking are free. West Broad Village will hold its annual Holiday Tree Lighting at The Pad, 2301 Old Brick Road, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Santa will light the tree and there will be interactive holiday performances, a s’mores station, and more festive fun. Visit Dave and Buster’s to write a letter to Santa and enter for a chance to ride a fire truck with him (for children ages 5-12). Canned food donations benefiting FeedMore are encouraged. The Richmond Choral Society will perform a collection of seasonal music in their annual holiday concert, “Christmas with the Richmond Choral Society,” at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2315 N. Parham Road, at 4 p.m. The performance will feature conductor Markus Compton, organist Christopher Martin, pianist Keith Tan, and a string quartet. Tickets are $10 to $18.
