The Latin Ballet of Virginia will present its annual performance of “The Legend of the Poinsettia” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 5, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 6 and at 3 p.m. Jan. 7 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. The story is based on the Mexican legend about a pure-hearted young girl who discovers the true spirit of giving. Unable to offer the Baby Jesus a gift of material value, she picks a handful of weeds that magically transform into brilliant red flowers. Tickets are $15 to $20. The Jon Spear Band will perform at 8 p.m. at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Rd. The band is a collaboration of Central Virginia blues musicians Dara James (guitar, vocals and harmonica), Andy Burdetsky (bass), John Stubblefield (drums), and Jon Spear (guitar and vocals). Their first CD “Old Soul” captured the #35 spot on the Roots Music Report's Top Contemporary Blues Album Chart for 2015. Tickets are $10. ComedySportz will present their hilarious, fast-paced and clean comedy at 8 p.m. Jan. 5 and at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at the ComedySportz Improv Theatre, located at 8906-H West Broad St.  ComedySportz Richmond pits two teams, the Richmond Legends and the Virginia Hams, against each other in an improv battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes, games and songs on the spot based off audience suggestions. The audience then votes for the winners.  There is also a referee that calls the fouls and the national anthem is even played before each match. The Autism Society of Central Virginia (ASCV) will offer a free workshop from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at River Road United Methodist Church, 8800 River Rd. This workshop will focus on the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) guidelines for conducting a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and developing effective positive Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Participants will discuss the regulatory aspects and best practices as they apply to the federal and state mandated process. Emphasis will be placed on developing, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of a BIP. This workshop is designed for parents who have students who exhibit difficulties in managing their behavior at school. Advocates and other community stakeholders who work with parents of students with behavior difficulties are also invited and encouraged to attend. This is the final weekend for Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights. This year’s theme explores “Naturally Ever After: Stories in Lights” – from fairy tales and folklore to time-treasured classics. The event features more than a half-million lights, botanical decorations, trains, holiday dinners, family activities and more. GardenFest ends Monday, Jan. 8. Tuckahoe Library will screen the documentary “Iris” (2015, PG-13, 80 minutes) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. “Iris” is an in-depth look into the life of fashion icon Iris Apfel, a flamboyantly-dressed 93-year-old style maven who, despite the abundance of glamour in her current life, continues to embrace the values and work ethic established during a middle-class Queens upbringing during the Great Depression. The Virginia Princess Winter Ball will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Hill Building, 501 Beulah Rd. in Sandston.
