NOV 8The Virginia Mountain Boys, featuring Virginia Music Hall of Fame inductee Bill Jenkins, will perform at the Henrico Theatre from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The concert will include original folk, early bluegrass and camp meeting music. For details, call 652-1460. *** Short Pump Town Center will celebrate Santa’s arrival with a parade and grand illumination from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Santa will arrive with his favorite holiday characters and two of his very own elves, along with many other friends and fan favorites during the annual parade. Everyone will then raise their magic wands to help Santa light the 60-foot, walk-thru tree. Magic wands will be distributed at 5:30 p.m. in the Nordstrom Court (while supplies last). This fun, comedic murder mystery by Teresa and David Hockman is a nod to Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None.” Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $12 for youth/students. Belmont Recreation Center, 1600 Hilliard Road, will host the Belmont Holiday Open House from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Festivities will include performances, seasonal crafts, a sampling of the programs at Belmont, fitness demos and even puppies. The first annual Sandston Community Fall Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sandston Smokehouse, 2 W. Williamsburg Road. Local arts and crafts vendors, retail businesses and organizations will be in attendance, as well as Henrico Police, Henrico Fire and the Henrico County Public Library’s Busmobile. Admission is free. The 28th annual Great American Indian Exposition & Pow-Wow will take place at Richmond Raceway from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 9 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 10. The event is an opportunity for the public to interact with members from more than 100 Indian tribes and to learn firsthand about rich Native American traditions including dancing, drumming, singing, arts and crafts, and food. The Henrico Theatre will present the program Real to Reel – an exploration of how historically accurate popular films are – at the Henrico Theatre from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a screening of “The Monuments Men” followed by a discussion with James Triesler, director of education at the Virginia War Memorial, and Twyla Kitts, teacher programs educator at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Elijah & The Fixins, a Washington, DC-based jazz combo, will perform a benefit concert, “Hungry for Music: An Evening of Jazz,” at Rigby’s Jig Dance Studio, 5470 West Broad Street, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Band leader and saxophonist Elijah J. Woodward is a former Richmond Public Schools student. While at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, he found other students who studied under the direction of jazz musician and educator Davey Yarborough and The Fixins was formed. The concert will include music teacher and local favorite Glennroy Bailey, as well as a silent auction. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the charity Hungry for Music.
