OCT 25The 22nd Annual Pumpkin Festival at Gayton Crossing Shopping Center will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be trick or treating with merchants, a special Henrico Police presentation, an interactive fire truck display and more. Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, will host the annual Handmade Harvest Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 30 vendors will be participating with a variety of crafts and other items for sale including jewelry, clothing, home décor, jarred and baked goods, original art, photography, natural wellness products, woodworking, and more. Innsbrook's 10th annual Pumpkin Palooza will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Shore Commons, 4951 Lake Brook Drive. The event will include a battle of the bands competition, vendor fair, rock climbing wall, petting zoo, pony rides, costume contest, face painting, pumpkin bowling, food, craft beers and more. The Dorey Park Farmers Market will hold its 2nd Annual Fall Festival from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dorey Park. In addition to fall produce and vendors, the free event will feature a pumpkin patch, face painting, live music, trick or treating, a dog costume contest, pumpkin decorating, games and more. The Richmond Highland Games (formerly the Central Virginia Celtic Festival & Highland Games) returns to Richmond Raceway from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 26 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 27. Competitions include fiddle, harp, highland dance, piping, drumming and Gaelic song, as well as heavy athletics and hurling. The Vendor Village will be selling jewelry, traditional Celtic food, pottery and kilts. There will also be whiskey tastings (additional fee), entertainment and children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and trick or treat with the clans in attendance. Admission starts at $15. Sportable, a Paralympic adaptive sports club, will host the River City Classic adult wheelchair basketball tournament Oct. 26-27 at Glen Allen High School, through a partnership with Henrico Recreation and Parks. Sportable’s team, the Rim Riders, is currently ranked 15th nationally and will compete against the Charlottesville Cardinals, Magee Spokesmen, Nassau Kings and Triangle Thunder. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 26 and conclude at 11 a.m. Oct. 27. In addition, a Skills Challenge where four players from each team showcase their skills will take place at 1 p.m. Oct. 26. The Richmond Philharmonic will present The Russian Connection at 4 p.m. at the Center for the Arts at Henrico High School, 302 Azalea Avenue. The program will include Glinka’s “Ruslan and Lyudmila” Overture, Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 2” featuring guest soloist Charles Staples, and Stravinsky’s Suite from “The Firebird.” Individual tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door; ages 18 and under are free. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen will host the Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Festival from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This festive celebration of life will feature performances by the Latin Ballet of Virginia and Richmond Ballet’s Minds in Motion Team XXL, dancing, music, treats and art activities for all ages. Costumes are encouraged. The Mercado Muertos (market) will have a variety of themed gifts and art to celebrate the spirit of the dead. Admission is free. Tuckahoe Plantation, 12601 River Road, will host Haunted History from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature fall festival games for all ages, as well as hayrides, a moon bounce, spider web and box tunnel mazes, a scavenger hunt, face painting and more. Take a ghost tour of the mansion to hear spooky tales of supernatural occurrences. Admission is $10 per person with a family maximum of $30 (up to five people). Ghost tour is extra.
