Want to start small business? A local group will teach you how – for free

Commonwealth Catholic Charities, in partnership with Women in Motion, is offering a nine-week course beginning Sept. 19 that will teach the fundamental stages of owning and operating a small business – with a special incentive at the end of the course.

"Mine Your Business" will lead participants from the idea of entrepreneurship to the implementation of a viable business.

In addition to training and workshops, an experienced business coach will mentor during one-on-one business counseling sessions.

Participants who successfully complete the course will have the opportunity to take part in the “Pitch & Present” competition that will award cash prizes to the top three winners to invest in their new venture. First prize is $3,000; second prize is $2,000; and third prize is $1,000.

The course runs weekly from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., through Nov. 14. Normally, it would cost $750, but will full scholarships provided by CCC, it is free.
