Sportable, an adaptive sports club, is partnering with local non-profit Power Over Parkinson’s to create a walking club designed exclusively for stroke survivors or individuals living with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease. The club will meet on Tuesdays from Sept. 29 through Nov. 3 at Deep Run Park. Registration is available now at Sportable.org.
Individuals with movement disorders are invited to walk at any pace along the scenic pond at Deep Run Park during this fall’s six-week program. The walking club will encourage members to incorporate more activity into daily routines, while connecting with other members in the community with similar goals and experiences. Social distancing and COVID-19 protocols will be in place to ensure safety precautions are taken.
“Partnering with Power Over Parkinson’s to start a walking club for members of our community with movement disorders is an exciting new program that aligns perfectly with our mission to make sports accessible for individuals with physical disabilities,“ commented Hunter Leemon, Sportable's executive director. “Not only will this program take steps towards improving health and fitness, but it is also an important way to decrease social isolation that many people are facing during these COVID-19 times.“
Gary Rogliano, Founder of Power Over Parkinson’s, added, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Sportable for the weekly walking cub. With so many aligning goals between POP and Sportable, particularly around serving similar communities, the collaboration was very natural and one that we believe will help those with movement disorders and other physical limitations.”
