The number of employed residents in Virginia increased by 8,212 to 4,448,520 in January, while the number of unemployed residents rose by 346 to 139,731. The labor force, which measures the percentage of the civilian population that is employed or actively seeking work, increased by 8,558 to 4,588,251.

Six of the 11 industry sectors in Virginia experienced job gains in January, with the "Professional and Business Services" sector witnessing the largest job gain at 5,100 new jobs, followed by the "Government" sector with 4,500 new jobs.
