Table of Contents

Virginia’s annual sales tax holiday is Aug. 3-5 and offers the chance for citizens to make tax-free purchases on a number of items.

Though the event often is associated with back-to-school shopping purchases, many other items also are available tax-free during the three-day period. Additionally, some stores pay the tax on items that wouldn't otherwise be tax-free during this period.

The three-day sales tax holiday starts Aug. 3 at 12:01 a.m. and ends Aug. 5 at 11:59 p.m. For a list of qualifying items and more information, visit https://tax.virginia.gov/virginia-sales-tax-holiday.
