A Henrico soldier who died during battle in Korea 70 years ago will be honored by the Virginia War Memorial March 11. The VWM will add the name of U.S. Army Private First Class Richard J. Harris of Henrico, who was wounded and died Oct. 5, 1951 in Korea, to its Shrine of Memory – 20th Century during a ceremony.

The name of a second soldier – U.S. Staff Sergeant Ben H. Maxwell of Appomattox, who lost his life April 18, 1983 during the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon – also will be added to the VWM’s Shrine of Memory-Global War on Terrorism.

Their names will join the more than 12,000 other Virginians who were killed in action in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War through today and are engraved on the walls of the Shrines of Memory at the Memorial.

The addition of names to the shrines takes place once or twice per year.
