A new nationwide campaign to prevent fentanyl overdoses is getting underway, and Virginia First Lady Suzanne Youngkin has teamed with New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy to help spearhead it.

The "It Only Takes One" campaign is a collaboration of first spouses, public figures, athletes, and influencers across the country. Most first spouses have joined the campaign, whose goal is to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of having conversations about the issue.

"Tiny amounts of fentanyl can be lethal, and it only takes one encounter for a life to be lost," Youngkin said. "That's why we are committed to educating every American about the risks and the importance of having life-saving conversations."

An average of five Virginians die every day as a result of fentanyl overdoses, according to the It Only Takes One website.

"The fentanyl epidemic has tragically affected families across America," said First Lady Murphy. "I am proud to join with First Lady Youngkin and first spouses from every corner of our country to raise awareness and amplify tools to fight this crisis. We have had enough of watching mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, grandparents, friends and extended family members experience the loss of their loved ones to preventable drug overdoses."
