Virginia DRPT unveils multimodal trip planning tool

Table of Contents

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation has introduced a new online trip planning tool that incorporates travel information for both traditional bus service and flexible mobility options. Using the Virginia Trip Planner, users can plan trips with bus, rail, bikeshare, carpools, vanpools, and on foot anywhere around the Commonwealth.

Traditional trip planners and applications typically display only transportation services that follow a set route and schedule, which are less prevalent in rural areas or are inaccessible to people with mobility challenges.  The Trip Planner, available on DRPT’s ConnectingVA website, includes both fixed-route transit routes and specialized transit services in underserved areas such as microtransit, which riders can request on demand to travel within a specified coverage area.
