Virginia DMV offering federal grants for road safety projects

Table of Contents

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is currently accepting grant applications from organizations dedicated to road safety.

The federal grants, awarded annually, aim to prevent traffic fatalities, injuries, and crashes. Eligible organizations include nonprofits, colleges and universities, law-enforcement agencies, and state and local government agencies. These organizations can apply for one or more grants to receive funding for a variety of projects.

Examples of previously funded projects include the National Organization of Youth Safety’s Vision Zero for Youth initiative, which works to eliminate pedestrian and bicycle crashes, injuries, and fatalities through safety improvements for children and youth, and the Richmond Ambulance Authority’s Rider Alert motorcycle safety program, which provides free identification cards to help first responders provide accurate medical assistance to motorcyclists involved in serious collisions. The DMV’s grant program is one of several funding opportunities available to organizations dedicated to road safety.

The application process is currently open, and eligible organizations are encouraged to submit an application before the Feb. 28, 2024 deadline. For details about the DMV’s grant program and how to apply, visit the DMV website.
