Virginia ABC discounting Virginia-made spirits during September

The designation recognizes Virginia's history of spirits. With more than 120 licensed distilleries in the state, the industry supports more than 3,000 jobs and generated $1.1 billion for Virginia's economy in 2022.

Virginia also is home to more than 70% of the wheat, barley, rye, corn, and potatoes used in the production of spirits by the state's distilleries.

“From the grains and fruits that are grown by Virginia farmers to the barrel components that originate from Virginia forests, the state's agricultural and forestry industries play an important role in the commonwealth's spirits industry," said VDACS Commissioner Joseph Guthrie.​ "Virginia distillers not only use these products, but they also provide farmers with spent mash that is used for feed and fertilizer."
