VHSL Foundation launches VHSL alumni campaign

Are you a Virginia High School League alum?

If so, you're in good company. Several million Virginians are VHSL alumni.

Each year the VHSL serves nearly 200,000 students in 27 sports and 12 academic activities in 316 member schools. As programs have grown, the costs to maintain these programs have increased.

During the past five years, the VHSL Foundation has granted back more than $365,000 to the VHSL to support programs.

This month, the foundation launched a year-long campaign to encourage alumni to donate money in order to increase support for VHSL programming. By contributing a gift of $25, a donor supports one student’s participation in VHSL activities for one year.

Former NFL player and first team All‐American UVA quarterback Shawn Moore noted recently that being involved in track, basketball and football at Martinsville High School provided him with the positive role models and mentors that helped shape him into the man he is today.

"Husky Hall, Taylor Edwards and Ricky Hailey were the biggest influences on my life at MHS," said Moore, who serves as Honorary Campaign Chair. "They taught me about being on time, commitment and teamwork. It was during those nonathletic conversations that they taught me the importance of about being humble, honest and having the highest integrity. I am forever shaped by the wisdom of those lessons learned from those incredible men."

Donors can utilize a secure text‐to‐give program by entering the number (434) 325‐5334 on a mobile phone and texting the word VHSL. Then, follow the directions to make a gift. Donors also may visit vhsl.org/foundation to make a gift online. Twenty percent of all fundraising efforts designated to a particular school will go directly back to the selected school.
