A review of Henrico death certificate data by the Virginia Department of Health has prompted officials to attribute at least 11 additional deaths to COVID-19, a VDH official told the Citizen Thursday.

The deaths were reported July 1 and 2 but occurred during the past several months (most recently in early June), according to the official. Six of the deceased were 80 or older, two were in their 70s and three were in their 60s, according to the VDH.

Five more COVID-related deaths were reported in Henrico Friday, bringing the county’s total from the virus to 157; it was unclear whether those, too, were previous deaths newly attributed to the virus.

Henrico's 7-day percent positivity rate among those recently tested declined to 5.8 percent June 29, the most recent date for which that data is available. This comes six days after Henrico recorded its lowest average to date (5.5%).

VDH reported just 14 new positive cases in the county Friday, increasing the total confirmed case count to 2,269 among the 35,447 PCR tests administered since the pandemic began.

Only one new hospitalization was reported, bringing the total among Henricoans since mid-March to 258.
