The Virginia Department of Health today reported 41 new cases of COVID-19 in Henrico County, along with two new deaths and five new hospitalizations. The VDH now has attributed 10 deaths in Henrico to the virus during the past 3 days, but the agency has indicated that it is working through a backlog of deaths, which suggests that some of the Henrico cases may not be recent.

“VDH is working diligently to identify COVID-19 related deaths using vital record death certificate information,” the agency wrote on its COVID-19 dashboard.

The two deaths reported Wednesday involved people in their 60s and 70s and brought Henrico’s total death count from the virus to 205. Of that total, 100 have occurred among people 80 or older, 50 among those in their 70s and 39 among those in their 60s.

Henrico's 7-day positivity percentage has also increased, reaching 7% as of Sept. 12 – the county's highest figure since Aug. 31, when it was 7.2%.

In total, more than 88,300 PCR tests have been conducted in the county to date. It’s unknown how many individual people that number might represent, because some people have been tested more than once – 14,147 in Henrico as of Sept. 2, to be exact, a VDH official told the Citizen recently.

Of Henrico’s 5,120 total confirmed cases, just more than one-quarter have resulted from 47 identified outbreaks (defined by the VDH as two or more related cases). Half of those outbreaks occurred in long-term care facilities in the county, while another 15 occurred in congregate settings. Three each occurred in healthcare settings and educational settings, while two occurred in correctional facilities.
