It was just a normal day for Carol Long. That is, until she discovered she’d won $100,000 playing the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game.

The Varina woman selected numbers on her ticket using family birthdays and the number of years she and her husband have been married. That formula worked when the numbers 10-11-14-21-23 were drawn in the June 8 day drawing.

She bought her winning ticket at her usual store: Chubby’s Amoco on New Market Road.

Long said she is thinking of using her winnings to pay off her mortgage.

Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11 p.m. The odds of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.

Henrico County received more than $21.5 million in lottery funds for K-12 public education last fiscal year, according to Virginia Lottery officials.
