Varina Ruritan Club adopts section of Route 5

Varina Ruritan has adopted a 2.7-mile stretch of Route 5 in Varina, between Ronnie’s BBQ and the Four Mile Creek Park near I-295. Seven members of the club spent three hours picking up trash earlier this month, cleaning the entire corridor.
The Adopt-a-Highway program requires the adopter to clean its section of highway twice per year, but Varina Ruritan members plan to clean up quarterly instead. Members who participated in the initial clean-up were Michael Yardley, Chris Finley, Maurice Shelton, Everett Cannon and Doug Singlemann, and (pictured) Buddy Whitlow, Kevin Wagner, Jonathan Schmick and Buddy Whitlow.
