Virginia Credit Union has awarded $2,500 scholarships to six Henrico County students through its scholarship program for members.
The students were selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, community service, extracurricular activities, an essay, and work to help cover the cost of education.
The Henrico County winners are:
• Jontae Burton of Henrico, a graduate of Henrico High School, planning to attend the University of Virginia.
• Samantha Game of Henrico, a graduate of Hermitage High School, planning to attend James Madison University.
• Haileigh Gofton of Henrico, a senior at James Madison University.
• Elizabeth Harden of Glen Allen, a senior at Old Dominion University
• Tanya Pettus Martin of Henrico, a sophomore at Reynolds Community College.
• Rutu Ravishankar of Glen Allen, a graduate of Henrico High School, planning to attend Virginia Tech.
Overall, Virginia Credit Union awarded $75,000 in college scholarships to 30 student members through its program. Virginia Credit Union has awarded nearly $1.3 million in college scholarships to student members since 1991.
