The University of Richmond recently earned two silver awards from the National Association of College & University Food Services for its demonstration kitchen and its International Education Week programs.

in the "Residential Special Event of the Year" category, the university was honored for its cuisine during the 2023 International Education Week program, which focused on sustainable and local food. A total of 2,000 people attended the dinner, which focused on sustainable, fresh local items and included cuisine from Denmark, Japan, South Africa, and New Zealand.

The university's demonstration kitchen, which is located in the Well-Being Center, earned recognition in the "Most Innovative Wellness and Nutrition Program" category for its commitment to culinary and nutrition skills development. The program, which is taught by registered dietitians, UR chefs and guest chefs from the Richmond area, encourages students to learn healthy eating habits through cooking demonstrations and classes.

“These awards highlight flagship commitments of UR Dining, including sustainability, pride in learning about and tasting cultures from around the world, partnerships across campus, providing and fostering healthy options, and nutrition and well-being," said Executive Chef Tyler Betzhold, interim executive director of UR Dining Services.

The awards will be presented to the university during the NACUFS 2024 National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, in July.
