Tyson Foods to give away 35,000 pounds of meat Oct. 9

Tyson Foods will give away 35,000 pounds of ham, bacon, sausage and other meats during a community event Oct. 9 at Debbie's Kitchen, 13155 Mountain Road (Route 33) in Hanover County, just north of the Henrico County line and I-295 in Glen Allen. The event is designed as part of a hiring push the company is making as it seeks to add 70 new workers at its Hanover plant.
The donated items will include Hillshire Farm and Ball Park products.
A car line will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon, and company officials will provide meat to each vehicle in a drive-through format. Any leftover food will be donated to LAMB's Basket, a Henrico charitable organization.
Tyson employees also will be available to answer questions about employment opportunities with the company.
