Longtime Tuckahoe District Supervisor Pat O'Bannon will seek the seat for a seventh term in November, she announced Wednesday.

O'Bannon first was elected in 1995 – becoming the first woman to serve on the board – and has served consecutive four-year terms since then. She's in the final year of her sixth term and has served as chair or vice chair of the board 11 times. The five-member Board of Supervisors is up for election Nov. 5. Fairfield District Supervisor Frank Thornton also has announced his intention to seek re-election.

In a press release, O'Bannon touted her efforts to maintain open lines of communications with constituents, which have included live streaming of her town meetings and a presence online and through social media, as well as traditional forms of communication. In 2017, O’Bannon was awarded the “Brilliant Idea” award from the National Association of Counties for her groundbreaking work with interactive town meetings.

O’Bannon currently represents residents on a variety of organizations, including the Virginia Coalition for Open Government, the Greater Richmond Partnership and the Capital Region Airport Commission. After originating the National Association of Counties’ Telecommunications and Technology Committee, she has been voted vice- chair of its steering committee since its inception. In 1985, O’Bannon helped establish the Henricus Foundation, an organization that has reconstructed the historic Citie of Henricus.

“I love Henrico County – our residents, our schools, our parks, our libraries, and our amazing police and fire departments," she said. "By reaching out on all media, I hope everyone will participate – in person, on line or from home."
