American Paper Converting, which produces bathroom tissue, facial tissue, and paper towel products, is planning a $17-million expansion in Henrico. The Washington-based company will move from its current location near Richmond Raceway to a new facility in White Oak Technology Park in Sandston.

The new 120,000-square-foot space at 5801 Tech Park Way will feature upgraded machinery and equipment, as well as new technology – including robotics automation. The plant will add 69 new jobs to the area.

The new facility will help APC amplify production of its product lines, including sustainable solutions such as high-capacity roll towels, coreless tissues, and its Eco Green brand, which is made from 100% recycled paper.

APC is the third in a string of high-profile expansions in Henrico that have been announced by industry leaders in recent months. In September 2021, Coca-Cola Consolidated revealed it was investing $23 million in new equipment and new production capabilities at its Sandston facility. In November, global snacking leader Mondelēz International Inc. disclosed it was investing $122.5 million to grow its bakery and build a new sales fulfillment center.

“Back in 2011, we fell in love with Henrico for its superior logistics, diversified business community, and dynamic labor force,” said Lydia Work, owner and founder of APC. “In 10 years, that love has only deepened. As we transition to a larger facility to answer the rising demand of our vast client base in healthcare, education, business, manufacturing, recreation, government, and the public sector, we are thrilled that Henrico already had everything in place to support our accelerated growth.”

“We are pleased that American Paper Converting has chosen to build a new production facility in Henrico’s Tech Park Place,” said Varina District Supervisor Tyrone Nelson, “and congratulate the company on this important expansion. Whether supplying paper products for a large sporting venue or commercial office space, American Paper Converting plays an important role in maintaining healthy environments for people in Henrico and beyond.”

APC currently is located at 4401 Carolina Avenue.
