The Henrico Board of Supervisors June 27 formally appropriated its $2-billion Fiscal Year 2024 budget. The budget, as approved by the board April 25 was divided between $1.7 billion in operating expenses, or routine day-to-day costs, and nearly $317 million in capital expenses for long-term upgrades and improvements. Included in the capital budget was $9 million for school system projects funded by the county's 4% tax on prepared food and beverages, or “meals tax.”The meals tax funding included the following items:• Tuckahoe Middle School - $3 million for the construction of an addition to the auditorium.• The Oak Avenue Complex - $2.5 million for replacement of rooftop A/C units.• Countywide - $500,000 for an update of elementary school operating software.• Brookland Middle School - $500,000 for the design of an auditorium addition.• Echo Lake Elementary School - $400,000 for the replacement of an A/C cooling tower.• Twin Hickory Elementary School - $400,000 for pavement work.• Greenwood Elementary School - $370,000 for pavement work.• Deep Run High School - $300,000 for pavement work.• Sandston Elementary School - $240,000 for the replacement of an A/C cooling tower.• Carver Elementary School - $180,000 for electrical replacements.• Glen Allen High School - $150,000 for interior improvements.• Rolfe Middle School - $125,000 to repaint the school.• Three Chopt Elementary School - $60,000 for electrical replacements.• Glen Lea Elementary School - $60,000 to repaint the school.• Montrose Elementary School - $55,000 to repaint the school.• Springfield Elementary School - $50,000 to remove interior partitions.• Hungary Creek Middle School - $45,000 for security improvements.• Ratcliffe Elementary School - $35,000 for security improvements.• Short Pump Middle School - $30,000 for auditorium repairs.
