Table of Contents

A website that’s all about names is predicting what the top 10 names for newborn boys and girls in Virginia will be this year.

Names.org released its annual “Most Popular Baby Names” list for 2022 recently, using data compiled from the Social Security Administration to predict this year’s top names.

In Virginia, the site is predicting no change from 2020 data in the top three spots for boys names; those, it predicts, will be claimed by Liam, Noah and William.

Among girls names, the top 6 projected names also occupied those spots in 202, though in a slightly different order; the site sees Ava moving from third to second, dropping Olivia from second to third. Charlotte is projected to continue in the No. 1 spot.

All 10 girls names and nine boys names appeared in the state’s top-10 list in 2020. The only predicted newcomer: Theodore, which the site expects will move to No. 9 on the boys side, up from No. 13 in 2020.

Eight of Virginia’s top 10 boy’s names are also on the national top 10 list; the two names unique to Virginia are Theodore and Jackson.

Six of the state’s top 10 girl’s names also are on the national top 10 list; the four names unique to Virginia are Harper, Mary, Elizabeth, and Ella.
