What can you report on the possible road construction at the Henrico/Richmond line on East Richmond Road? It seems as this was somewhat of a potentially secretive project until the commencement thereof. Very curious as to who is the one responsible for this project.

Henrico County and the City of Richmond both are planning projects in this area, according to Henrico Public Works Director Terrell Hughes.

Henrico officials intend to rebuild East Richmond Road on the county's side (between Nine Mile Road and Dabbs House Road) during a period of several weeks, Hughes told the Citizen. Weather has delayed the project a bit, but once underway, the rebuild will resemble similar efforts on other county roads, including most recently on Kain Road. (See a 2023 video of a similar effort on Meadow Road here.)

Relatedly, the county also is planning to install a roundabout at the intersection of Dabbs House Road, Kingsridge Parkway and East Richmond Road after it makes improvements to Dabbs House Road between Creighton and Nine Mile roads.

Kingsridge Parkway will be opened to the public once county officials install a new traffic signal at its intersection with North Laburnum Avenue, Hughes said.

Meanwhile, the city is planning a maintenance project on its side of East Richmond Road during which it will close the road to replace bridges that span Gillies Creek and Stony Run.

Henrico residents who travel the area will be impacted, but county officials have asked that the city wait to begin the project until after it completes other projects on Williamsburg Road and Government Road, both of which Hughes said already have been impacting traffic heading into the city from the county and toward I-95 in the Montrose area, as well as on Route 5.
