The short answer: Don’t expect any shovels in the ground right away, but the wheels are turning on both projects.

Henrico County’s Sports and Entertainment Authority posted a request of interest last fall to attract potential developers interested in building and operating a new baseball complex at Glover Park. Submissions were due by Nov. 30. Officials with the SEA told the Citizen earlier this spring that negotiations with interested parties were ongoing.

There is no timeframe on when a potential developer might be selected, but it’s likely that the county hopes to get moving fairly quickly if it finds a strong partner. Henrico has made sports tourism a primary focal point in recent years, and with significant success: annual sports tourism spending last year in the county amounted to about $60 million, according to the SEA, which said Henrico attracted more than 164,000 sports tourism visitors through the 190 or so tournaments it hosted.

As for the Greenwood Road project, Henrico is planning a multi-phase improvement effort on the road, with the first phase widening it between its intersection with Woodman Road to about 800 feet north of its intersection with Branch Road (as pictured above). The project will include the creation of a center turning lane, a 10-foot shared-use path along the north side of Greenwood and a five-foot sidewalk along the souths side.

Design work is underway, according to Henrico Public Works Transportation Development Division Director Sharon Smidler, and right-of-way acquisition is tentatively scheduled to begin in January, with construction following by February 2026.

I just received a new 95-gallon recycling cart from CVWMA and Henrico County, but I already had purchased one several years ago. I don’t need two – what should I do with the new one?

If you already have a large recycling cart and don’t need the second one you received, CVWMA officials are encouraging you to see if any of your neighbors might want the new one (especially those who go through a lot of cardboard). But if you don’t find any takers and need to return it, email CVWMA at CustomerService@cvwma.com to make your desire known (be sure to include your address) or just call (804) 340-0900. You should leave your unwanted cart at the curb until it is picked up, according to CVWMA spokesperson Julie Buchanan.

If you have not yet received your second cart and don’t want it, complete a form here to let CVWMA officials know, so that they skip your house when making deliveries to your neighborhood.
