Temporary ramp closure planned at I-64/Airport Drive

Table of Contents

Beginning Nov. 9, the Virginia Department of Transportation will temporarily close the ramp from Airport Drive (Route 156) north to I-64 west as part of the I-64/Airport Drive bridge replacement and interchange improvements project.

Drivers will be able to access I-64 west from Airport Drive north using a temporary crossover ramp. Weather permitting, the ramp (labeled loop A in the image above) is expected to reopen in fall 2021.

The ramp from Airport Drive south to I-64 east also is closed with a temporary crossover access in use. Weather permitting, the ramp (labeled loop C in the image) is expected to reopen in winter 2020.

The primary purpose of the $35 million project is to replace the I-64 eastbound and westbound bridges over Airport Drive, increase vertical clearance on Airport Drive and perform necessary approach work to accommodate the vertical increase. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete in late 2022.
