Local youngsters and young adults ages 14 to 24 who are looking for summer jobs, internships or volunteer opportunities are invited to attend an upcoming 2019 InspireYouth@Work Summer Opportunity Fair. The Henrico fair will take place March 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Virginia Career Works, 121 Cedar Fork Road.

Fairs also will be held in Chesterfield and Hanover counties later in March; admission to all fairs is free.

InspireYouth@Work Opportunity Fairs are the only events in Central Virginia that specifically connect young people living in the Capital Region (City of Richmond, Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent or Powhatan counties) with local businesses, government and non-profit organizations looking for summer help.

Attendees will be able to meet with representatives from local businesses, government and non-profit organizations to explore work, apprenticeship and volunteer opportunities, and to pick up helpful tips for job-hunting at workshops covering resume-writing and building a social media presence.

Among companies and organizations that have sent representatives to past opportunity fairs are Applebee’s, Army Recruiting, HomeGoods, Four Points Sheraton, County of Henrico, Kings Dominion, Publix Supermarkets, Inc., Red Lobster, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Virginia Job Corps, Quality Moving Services, Walmart, VCU Health Sciences Pipeline, and YMCA of Greater Richmond.

“InspireYouth@Work Opportunity Fairs provide a venue where young people can learn about the options available in the region and meet with potential employers in one convenient location," said Krishawn L. Monroe, assistant director of the Capital Region Workforce Partnership. "For employers, it’s a great place to connect with motivated youth and identify potential talent in the upcoming workforce. We want to help as many area youth and young adults as possible to get off to a strong start in the job market."
