Students show off skills at Henrico Schools' Career Rodeo

Local employers had a chance to see Henrico County high school students demonstrate their skills in a variety of career disciplines March 16 during the school system's annual Career Rodeo at Richmond Raceway.

The event, hosted by the Henrico Schools Department of Workforce and Career Development, was designed as a chance for Advanced Career Education students to meet with employers and show off their abilities in construction, communications, machining, electrical work, nursing and many others. During the event, students solved work-based challenges as employers and others looked on. Some employers conducted on-site interviews, and many students provided their resumes to employers.

The Career Rodeo was the second of three annual events designed to help prepare students for future careers. The final will be the CTE Signing Day in May, during which students will celebrate signing job offers with employers in the same type of format through which athletes typically commit to colleges or universities. In the fall, the school system hosted its Life Ready Expo, which brought students and their families together with industry partners to learn about career opportunities.
