Student charged after fight at Varina High School

An 18-year-old Varina High School student has been charged with malicious wounding after a fight at Varina High School left a staff member injured.

Just before noon May 4, Henrico Police were called to the school after reports of ongoing disorderly situations among students. During the incident, a school employee who was assisting in separating the fighting students was struck and received at laceration to the forehead, according to HCPS spokeswoman Eileen Cox. The school remained in “lock and teach” for the remainder of the day. The employee was taken to the hospital for treatment of the injury, according to police.

The student – Taylor Nicholas Goodman, 18, of Henrico – faces the malicious wounding charge as a result of the incident.

Police and school system officials continue to urge students and the public to report behavior that may disrupt school instruction.
