State Police identify victims of I-295 crash

Virginia State Police have identified the two victims of a fatal crash that happened near the Henrico-Hanover line on I-295 Thursday.
Edward E. Austin, 76, and Lorraine P. Austin, 73, both of Newport News, died when the 2005 Ford Excursion driven by Edward Austin made contact with a Peterbilt dump truck while attempting to change lanes near mile marker 42 on I-295 southbound at about 2 p.m. Austin’s vehicle was pulling a trailer.
The vehicle and trailer both subsequently ran off the road to the right, struck a sign and then separated. The travel trailer came to rest on its side.
The Peterbilt did not receive disabling damage; its driver and sole occupant was not injured.
The Austins both died at the scene. They were wearing seatbelts, according to police, whose investigation is ongoing.
