A Lakeside man sought by Henrico Police refused to surrender for several hours Sunday night but eventually came out of a home in the 2600 block of Kenwood Avenue after apparently injuring himself.
Police were seeking to issue the man two felony sexual assault warrants at 2 p.m. but no one answered the door. They returned at 4 p.m. after receiving information that the man had returned home, but he then refused to come out. The standoff lasted into the late-night hours.
Neighbors reported hearing a series of popping sounds as the negotiation process dragged on; it was unclear if the sounds were related to tear gas being fired into the residence. A video of the home showed small holes in several of the windows.
The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, according to police.
