Sportable, an adaptive sports club, will again host the River City Classic adult wheelchair basketball tournament March 4-5, officials announced Jan. 5. The tournament will be held at RockIt Sports in Henrico’s West End, featuring a dozen Division II and Division III teams from throughout the East Coast.

“The Rim Riders have a storied 40-year history in Richmond and we are proud to showcase their talents by hosting a top-class tournament in Henrico County this spring,” said Hunter Leemon, Sportable’s executive director. “The River City Classic is shaping up to be a phenomenal event with a dozen wheelchair basketball teams from across the East Coast expected to appear. I strongly encourage everyone to save the date for this action-packed weekend.”

Founded in 1981, the Rim Riders wheelchair basketball team has been a mainstay in the Richmond region for more than 40 years. The team merged with Sportable in 2017 and is a Division II member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. The Rim Riders are currently ranked 16th in the country, and the top 16 teams qualify for the national tournament this spring.

The River City Classic will tip off March 4 at 8:30 a.m. and will continue on three courts throughout the day. The tournament will conclude with championship games March 5. All games will be free for the public to attend.
