Sportable, the only adaptive sports club in Central Virginia, will host its first-ever RVA Adaptive Sports Festival Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Glen Allen High School, through a partnership with the Henrico Division of Recreation and Parks. The event is designed to introduce more than a dozen adaptive sports to people who have physical disabilities and visual impairments. Registration is available now at Sportable.org.

“We are thrilled to provide the opportunity for individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments to try out an array of adaptive sports, whether you want to play for fun or are searching for a competitive team,” commented Hunter Leemon, Sportable's executive director. “Meet our expert coaches and staff, check out a variety of adaptive sports equipment, and find the program that can help you reach your personal finish line.”

The accessible, inclusive, and fun-filled experience day will feature exhibition games by the Sportable Possums (wheelchair rugby), Sportable Crush (wheelchair lacrosse), Sportable Rim Riders (adult wheelchair basketball), Sportable Spokes (youth wheelchair basketball), and Sportable Hive (power soccer). Adaptive sports such as archery, cycling, goalball, racing, rowing, and tennis also will be showcased through demonstrations, pickup games, and skills clinics.

People of all ages will be able to learn new skills with the assistance of special equipment and qualified instructors at the event. No previous adaptive sports experience or equipment is required.
