Sportable, Central Virginia’s adaptive sports club, is partnering with REACHcycles to introduce Cycle Saturdays for youth with disabilities, Sept. 12 through Oct. 3 at Deep Run Park. Registration is available now for REACHcycles recipients at Sportable.org.

With a mission to provide mobility and independence to children and veterans with disabilities, REACHcycles has donated more than 400 adaptive cycles since its inception in 2014. Sportable‘s newly launched Cycle Saturdays program coincides with one of REACHcycle’s quarterly Presentation Days that took place Aug. 30, during which 25 youngsters received specially-adapted, donated cycles.

Cycle Saturdays is designed to provide the opportunity for new REACHcycles riders to learn how to use their cycles, experience the freedom of riding independently, and enjoy socially distanced, small-group trail rides at Deep Run Park.  Sportable and community partners will provide qualified cycling volunteers and experienced therapists to assist with the program, while maintaining COVID-19 safety protocols.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with REACHcycles and Henrico County to offer this one-of-a-kind program for youth with disabilities in our community,“ said Hunter Leemon, Sportable Executive Director.

“Cycle Saturdays are a fantastic way for our cycle recipients to learn to ride in a safe and controlled environment,“ added James Howard, REACHcycles President. “This program takes our mission a step further where we are not only providing the equipment, but also the skills and sense of community that will allow the kids to achieve a new level of freedom and independence.  We can’t wait to get started this month!“
