Sportable and Richmond Raceway have announced an enhanced partnership that will provide a new home for adaptive road racing this fall. Sportable athletes will have access to the nearly 2.5-mile, paved tram route that traverses the 1,100-acre raceway complex for recreational and competitive training Sept. 28 through Nov. 9.

One of Sportable’s 12 adaptive sports programs, road racing provides wheelchair racing and running opportunities to athletes of all ages and abilities, and is ideal for athletes interested in improving their general health and fitness as well as training for events. Paralympic Racing makes minimal accommodations for various types of disabilities, including guide runners, specialized running prostheses and racing wheelchairs.

“We are thrilled to have found the perfect home for our road racing program and are grateful for the generous support of the state-of-the-art Richmond Raceway Complex,” said Hunter Leemon, Sportable executive director. “Providing a safe and accessible route for our road racing program will allow our athletes with physical disabilities and visual impairments to train without having to navigate vehicular traffic as they prepare for the upcoming VCU Health Richmond Marathon and partner events.”
