Speech Connections offers services in three primary focus areas:

Speech Language Therapy

Speech Connections works with children who have communication difficulties resulting from a variety of diagnoses, such as autism, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, motor speech disorders, and various syndromes. Its speech-language pathologists are highly trained to assess and treat a variety of communication differences and disorders.

The organization is committed to making a difference in a child’s ability to communicate effectively. It’s also committed to working with and empowering parents to implement communication strategies and home practice to maximize your child’s progress.

Speech Connection’s therapists develop treatment programs that are highly individualized and focused on your child’s continued development while also prioritizing personal preferences and family goals.

Teletherapy

Teletherapy utilizes modern online video conferencing to meet with you and your child in the comfort of your own home – and all you need is a computer, internet connection and a camera. Frequently, children are excited about being able to use a computer to meet with their therapist in the comfort of their own home while remaining close to family. This method also reduces stressors caused by travel and the “runaround” that parents deal with daily.

Speech Connections aims to be an integrated part of its clients’ lives and to attempt to work around their needs rather than battling a rigid 9 to 5 schedule. The organization will work with clients to find the best solution to their needs. It is licensed to provide teletherapy services in the state of Virginia. The American Speech-Language Hearing Association has endorsed the use of telepractice.

Hanen Parent Programs

Ae you a parent who wants to feel confident in strengthening your child’s communication skills?

Speech Connections has a Hanen Certified Speech-Language Pathologist on its team who is passionate about teaching and empowering parents about how to increase their child’s communication skills during everyday interactions. After all, parents are typically the ones who spend the most time with their child.

This collaborative program will give you the strategies needed to help your child meet developmental milestones quicker and to reduce both your and your child’s frustration.

The two programs offered are:

• It Takes Two to Talk – The Hanen Program for parents of children with language delays• More Than Words – The Hanen Program for parents of children with autism spectrum disorder or social communication difficulties

Each 7-week program can be offered 1:1 with the organization’s trained Speech-Language Pathologist either in person or virtually. Parent coaching sessions last 45 minutes to one hour.
