U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger (D-7th District) is inviting high school students from the district to participate in an art competition, in which the winner’s piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside artwork from students in all 50 states.

The annual contest is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the artistic talent of Central Virginia students. Full details and instructions are available on Spanberger’s website at https://spanberger.house.gov/services/art-contest.htm. Entries may include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photography. Any high school student who resides in the Seventh District may submit one piece for consideration.

Submissions are due by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 26 and must be delivered to one of the Congresswoman’s district offices:

• Henrico Office – 4201 Dominion Blvd, Suite 110, Glen Allen, VA; (804) 401-4110

• Spotsylvania Office, 9104 Courthouse Road, Room 249, Spotsylvania; (804) 401-4110

Participants are encouraged to call ahead to arrange a drop-off time with district staff and should not leave any artwork unattended. Students and families are also encouraged to make plans to attend a May 3 exhibit, reception and awards ceremony in Henrico County. Details will be announced soon.

“Each year, this contest provides an excellent opportunity to recognize and celebrate the thriving arts culture and talent among Central Virginia’s high school students,” said Spanberger. “The arts are a crucial component of an education, and I look forward to seeing all the impressive work our students will submit.”
