SONIC Foundation initiative helps fund Henrico teachers' projects

A number of Henrico County Public Schools teachers received funding recently through SONIC Drive-In’s SONIC Foundation’s Limeades for Learning initiative, which in total donated $1.5 million to match public contributions made to requests on DonorsChoose, a national nonprofit that supports public school teachers.

In honor of May's Teacher Appreciation Month, the SONIC Foundation matched 50 percent of each donation made to teacher requests, fully funding nearly 15,300 projects across the country.

Henrico teachers who received funding through the program were:

• Mrs. Walsh at Elizabeth Holladay Elementary School for the project "2nd Grade Reading Center Revamp!" for grades pre-K-2;

• Ms. McMillan at Hermitage High School for the project "Restocking the Panther Pantry" for grades 9-12;

• Ms. McMillan at Hermitage High School for the project "Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking With LEGO Spike Kits" for grades 9-12;

• Mrs. Bennett at Jackson Davis Elementary School for the project "Readers Are Leaders" for grades 3-5;

• Mrs. White at Jackson Davis Elementary School for the project "Escape the Predictable" for grades 3-5;

• Mrs. White at Jackson Davis Elementary School for the project "It‚Äôs a Great Big World" for grades 3-5;

• Mrs. Beckham at Skipwith Elementary School for the project "Meteorologists in the Making!" for grades 3-5;

• Mrs. Y. at Arthur Ashe Junior Elementary School for the project "The More You Know..." for grades 3-5;

• Ms. Eier at Arthur Ashe Junior Elementary School for the project "Change Makers and Risk Takers! Celebrating Some Real GOAT's!" for grades 3-5;

• Ms. Brown at Fairfield Middle School for the project "Falcon Hydration Stations" for grades 6-8;

• Coach Price at Glen Lea Elementary School for the project "Shooting for the Stars in Sports" for grades 3-5;

• Dr. Moshoeshoe at Glen Lea Elementary School for the project "Curl Up With a Book" for grades pre-K-2;

• Ms. Johnston at Glen Lea Elementary School for the project "Paint Materials for My Kindergarten Artists!" for grades pre-K-2;

• Ms. L. Taylor at Glen Lea Elementary School for the project "Creating Young Readers" for grades pre-K-2;

"SONIC is invested in supporting the local communities served by our more than 3,500 locations, and we're proud of the impact we've made over the past 14 years through Limeades for Learning,” said SONIC Chief Marketing Officer Lori Abou Habib. Habib also acknowledged SONIC guests who contributed to DonorsChoose, emphasizing the importance of their ongoing support for public education.
