Shoe-drive planned at Dorey Park Farmers Market Aug. 22

Nonprofit Soles4Souls will host a shoe drive at the Dorey Park Farmers Market Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Anyone can bring new or gently-worn shoes of any kind to the market, at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Road in Varina. The donated shoes will be distributed to Soles4Souls’ micro-enterprise programs that create jobs in Haiti, Honduras and other developing nations.
The micro-enterprise model provides individuals the ability to start small businesses by providing a steady supply of high-quality, low-cost product. It also gives a second life to unwanted shoes, keeping them out of landfills and protecting the environment.
