Shepherd's Center Open University to host 'Lunch and Life' series

The Open University of The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond, now in its 35th year, will host its annual "Lunch and Life" series of speakers, free and open to anyone 50 or older.

The four-week series is co-sponsored by St. Mary Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Road, where the programs are held at 12:30 p.m. A bag lunch at noon, with beverages and dessert provided by the church, precedes the speakers.

The schedule is:

• Sept. 25 – “Whistle While You Work: The Spiritual Message of Famous Disney Songs” by Father Michael Renninger, pastor, St. Mary Catholic Church; local performer.

• Oct. 2 – “Hollywood Cemetery: A Park and Garden” by Kathryn Whittington, master guide, Valentine Museum; historical researcher

• Oct. 9 – “Change the World RVA: Supporting Richmond’s Homeless High School Students” by Natalie May, founder and director, Change the World RVA.

• Oct. 16 – “Best Seat in the House: Life in the Game, Not on the Sidelines” by The Hon.John Hager, former Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. (Books available for purchase.)
