As part of its 35th anniversary celebration, Shepherd’s Center of Richmond recently honored two of its longtime volunteers for their contributions to the organization.

Arthur B. Gunlicks and Suzanne P. Wiltshire both received the organization's Distinguished Service Award, presented by President Hal Costley.

Gunlicks, a professor emeritus of political science at the University of Richmond, served as president of the center (which is located in Henrico) from 2012-2014.

For 13 years he led the Education Committee, which is responsible for recruiting teachers and organizing courses for the Open University, the center’s lifelong learning program. He also is a teacher, offering courses in European politics.

Wiltshire is a former foreign language teacher and administrator who served at both public and private schools until her retirement from St. Catherine’s School after 38 years.

She was chairman of the Public Relations Committee of the Shepherd’s Center for nine years and, as a member of the Education Committee with Gunlicks, helped arrange 60 lunch speakers a year for the Open University.

A former vice president, she continues to teach a French course. In 2012, her French students established a scholarship in her name to provide tuition for those who need financial help for the Open University.
