Second community meeting planned for proposed industrial/data center park in Sandston

Representatives from the development group that is proposing a $1-billion, 622-acre industrial park and data center complex at the intersection of I-295, East Williamsburg Road and Technology Boulevard in Sandston have scheduled a second community meeting to discuss the plans and receive community input about them.

The meeting will be held in the Seven Pines Elementary School cafeteria Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m.

Hourigan, a Richmond-based construction and development firm, filed initial rezoning plans with Henrico County in November, seeking to build the complex on what has been viewed for decades as prime real estate in the county. The complex has been referred to in various written and spoken statements as the VAH Data Center Campus, although that name apparently did not come from the developer, which doesn't intend to use it in reference to the project. The proposal initially was scheduled to be heard by the Henrico Planning Commission Jan. 11 but was deferred and is now expected to be heard at the commission's Feb. 8 meeting.

The county’s board of supervisors holds ultimate rezoning authority and would need to approve the concept before it could take shape.

Hourigan is proposing to rezone the site from A-1 (agricultural) land to an M-1C (industrial) site, with the intent of allowing a number of uses, likely to include data centers, advanced manufacturing and other industrial buildings and office buildings. The developer is proposing that distribution centers would be prohibited on the land without future approval.

The project would be a partnership between Hourigan, Vienna Finance, Inc. and Atlantic Crossing, which combined either own or have plans to purchase all acreage at the site.

Seven Pines Elementary School is located at 301 Beulah Road in Sandston.
