The Henrico Education Foundation has established a scholarship fund in memory of Lara Teague Curry, a Freeman H.S. teacher who died unexpectedly Oct. 9, just days before her 38th birthday.

Curry was a Freeman graduate who returned to the school as a social studies teacher after earning degrees from University of Mary Washington and University of Richmond.  In 2009 she was named Best New Teacher at the school; she was also named Freeman's Teacher of the Year in 2016.  As stated in her obituary, "she saw teaching as a means to connect with and help young people navigate a challenging part of life, and used her classroom to show her students that she cared about each of their successes and challenges."

To donate or to learn more about the scholarship – which according to the foundation website was established "so that her professional mission can carry on for years to come and continue to impact the Freeman Community that she so loved and where she was beloved in return" – visit https://henricogives.org/lara/.

A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Richmond Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
