Richmond Volleyball Club serves up more than volleyball

With about 3,000 active members and two locations, RVC has become a central hub for recreational volleyball in Central Virginia. About 280 adult teams participate in year-round evening leagues, and youth ages 4-18 participate in a variety of comprehensive junior programs.The club caters to a diverse range of skill levels and demographics, creating an environment that promotes both competition and community. Adult offerings include men's and women's leagues, coed leagues, Masters (+50), and Senior Masters (60+). The junior programs focus not just on winning but also on creating positive experiences for players aged 4-18, emphasizing continued learning and skill development.

The club has grown from its original home, a former skating rink with 4 courts in what is now Scott’s Addition, to its permanent home in Henrico County on Byrdhill Road with 12 courts, a training room, and a full-service café. In 2018, in partnership with Chesterfield County Economic Development Authority, it opened a second location, Stonebridge,  near Chippenham and Midlothian Turnpike, added an additional 8 courts to better serve the growing need for volleyball programs in the Greater Richmond area.RVC also hosts beach leagues, skills clinics, private lessons, and outdoor tournaments. Understanding the importance of skill development, RVC offers Adult Skills Clinics designed for players of all levels. The clinics cover various aspects of the game, from passing and serving to hitting and blocking, providing an avenue for personal growth within the sport. Additionally, RVC conducts referee training clinics, offering not just the opportunity to officiate matches but also providing additional perks and benefits.The club's facilities go beyond the courts, offering a café, weight training room, meeting rooms, and showers. RVC takes pride in providing its members with a holistic experience, fostering athletic development and a sense of community through social events and parties.Reaching the community through outreach and partnershipsRVC's commitment to serving the community extends beyond its membership. It aims to break down barriers for individuals facing challenges accessing sports and bring the joy of volleyball to underserved communities. The club actively engages in outreach programs, collaborating with organizations like the Henrico Education Foundation, NextUp, City of Richmond Parks and Recreation, and Henrico, Chesterfield, and Richmond Police Athletic Leagues. These partnerships promote physical activity, teamwork, and personal development while making volleyball accessible to individuals of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels.In 2005, RVC established The Robison Fund in memory of Roger Robison, one of the club's first board members. The fund allows RVC and its members to provide financial assistance to young athletes who would not be able to participate without financial assistance. In 2022-2023, RVC granted more than $65,000 in financial assistance to junior players in its Travel program, Virginia Youth Volleyball League, Boys' Youth Development League, Middle School League, Jumpin' Juniors, Jump Up, and camps.Sponsors and donors welcomeRVC recognizes the importance of collaboration and support from the broader community to further its mission. The club actively seeks sponsors who are looking for cost-effective ways to reach new customers. Sponsors can contribute to the club's outreach efforts, gaining visibility and making a positive impact on the community. RVC Juniors focuses on creating positive experiences and fostering continuous learning, emphasizing that success goes beyond winning. The program encourages players to strive for their personal best, contributing to both performance and personal growth. RVC aims to build a community where the values learned on the volleyball court translate into lifelong lessons.

With events and tournaments like "Volley by the James," "Boys East Coast Championship," and "Virginia Volleyball Showcase," the club provides diverse opportunities for enthusiasts of all skill levels.Extended open gym sessions and Pickleball offerings further contribute to the comprehensive and inclusive nature of the RVC community. With designated hardwood floors and various membership options, Pickleball at RVC opens new avenues for fun and fitness for all skill levels.The club invites individuals of all ages to join its dynamic community.
