Richmond Raceway to host regional Scripps National Spelling Bee competition

Richmond Raceway has been named an official regional partner for the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee and will host the regional spelling bee competition in Central Virginia this spring, track officials announced Nov. 25.
The winner of the regional event will compete in the national competition in Washington, D.C. in May. The Scripps National Spelling Bee, America’s longest-running educational competition, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
“We’re thrilled to host the Richmond Raceway Regional Spelling Bee for our bright students throughout Central Virginia,” said Richmond Raceway President Lori Collier Waran. “Giving them the opportunity to key in on their confidence and linguistic skills is critical to their educational development, and we’re proud to the assist in these efforts as a Scripps National Spelling Bee regional partner.”
Bruhat Soma, a 12-year-old from Tampa, Florida, won the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee after correctly spelling a record 29 words in the second spell-off. The event reaches millions of students worldwide with classroom materials for schools in the yearlong program.
