Richmond Raceway today announced that it will demolish some existing grandstands to make way for new amenities as part of its redevelopment efforts. The track will open an RV park in Turn 3 and a party deck in Turn 4 to provide new viewing opportunities for fans. It will demolish the Old Dominion and Colonial grandstands in order to make way for the new areas, which will debut during the April 20-21 race weekend.

The party deck in will provide a tiered viewing experience with a drink rail, similar to fan areas in Major League Baseball stadiums. The premium RV park in Turn 3 will have water and power hook-ups in a private, fenced-in area overlooking the track.

“Richmond Raceway Reimagined was the start of the redevelopment of the fan experience at Richmond Raceway,” said Richmond President Dennis Bickmeier. “The fan-based capital improvements in Turns 3 and 4 will provide fans with improved experiences in time for our Toyota spring race weekend. Richmond has been a racing destination for 70 years, and this is another step in preparing the track for race fans over the next 70 years.”

With the changes, the grandstand capacity for Richmond will remain in excess of 50,000 – about half of what it was at its peak early this century. The raceway is undertaking its "Richmond Raceway Reimagined" project, a $30-million infield redevelopment project that is designed to provide unique fan opportunities.
